TERRESTRE HOTEL

Hotel Terrestre is a boutique eco-retreat near Puerto Escondido, Mexico, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Oaxacan mountains. Designed by architect Alberto Kalach and his team at Taller de Arquitectura X (TAX), the hotel is built entirely from locally sourced materials, with a focus on sustainability and seamless integration with the natural landscape.
The property features 14 private villas, each with its own pool and outdoor bathroom. The architecture blends earth, wood, brick, and concrete, while custom furniture by Mexican designer Oscar Hagerman adds to the rustic elegance. The hotel's earthy tones and minimalist design create a serene, nature-immersed atmosphere.
Hotel Terrestre is 100% solar-powered and designed to remain off the grid. Ingenious construction techniques provide natural cooling, eliminating the need for air conditioning and encouraging guests to follow the sun's rhythms.
Amenities include a circular communal pool, a long swimming lane, and a hexagonal spa with a chilled water tub, steam room, and indoor-outdoor showers. The open-air restaurant serves Mexican and Mediterranean-inspired dishes made with local ingredients.
Nearby, guests can visit Casa Wabi, an artist residency and cultural center designed by Tadao Ando, or enjoy local dining spots like Kakurega Omakase and mezcalerias such as Cobarde. Outdoor activities in the region include surfing, birdwatching, meditation, hiking, horseback riding, and exploring bioluminescent waters.
Hotel Terrestre offers a secluded, eco-conscious escape, blending minimalist luxury with a deep connection to nature.
